How to Choose the Perfect Paint Color

When choosing paint colors, you will no doubt be assaulted by thousands of options. There are literally infinite possibilities when it comes to paint colors. One of the best paint color ideas is to choose a paint color based on what that color represents. For example, someone looking for paint color ideas for happiness would probably choose a bright color; something like a yellow; something that projects outward happiness. Colors are typically broken into four different groups: cool colors, warm colors, mixed colors, and neutral colors.

Cool colors consist of blue, green, turquoise, and silver. These colors tend to be calming. The advantage is that these paint color ideas are comforting and nurturing. The disadvantage of these colors is that they can look cold and impersonal. Cool colors can be the right choice for a baby’s room, or a room that you want to be calming, such as a kitchen.

Warm colors consist of red, pink, gold, and orange. These colors tend to be the more exciting paint colors, which can be both good and bad. They can present warm feelings, but they can also project feelings of violence. Warm colors also tend to remind people of change. Warm colors can be the perfect fit for a recreation or a bedroom.

Mixed colors are colors like purple, green, lavender, and turquoise. These colors mix the attributes of cool and warm colors and, because of their combination, they present themselves as intriguing. They can be both exciting and calming at the same time. Mixed colors are a generally good choice for any room.

Neutral colors, or hospital colors, are usually used when searching for professional paint color ideas. They consist of black, grey, white, beige, brown, and ivory. They are occasionally referred to as the colors of unity, and they are occasionally used to tone down other colors, or to draw attention to another color.

It’s difficult to make blanket statements regarding paint color ideas, because each one of the paint colors can represent something different for each person. One such color is blue. For some, blue represents new birth, it is a color commonly chosen by parents searching for paint color ideas for their children’s room. However, for others, the paint color of blue represents serenity, and still others identify the color of blue with depression and unhappiness.

Another paint color idea is to paint a room multiple colors. There are colors that blend well together. A good way to tell whether or not two paint colors will work well together in a room is to look at their position on the color chart. Analog colors (colors that are separated by another color) usually look good together, and are commonly found in nature. An example of this would be light red and light purple. When combined, these paint colors look natural and realistic.
